Volunteer Positions
PAGS is an all Volunteer Organization. We rely on the generosity and
good will of many, many volunteers to organize our league, coach our
teams, and otherwise complete the many tasks that must be done before,
during and after our softball season. WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Each family is expected to volunteer in some way, in either a team support
or league support position.
Here are brief descriptions
of the different volunteer opportunities. Please contact us if you need
clarification. If you have some special skills, please let us know.
We especially encourage women to take an active role in team leadership
as coaches and assistant coaches.
TEAM VOLUNTEERS: COACHES
(required to form teams)
Each team requires at least two adult coach volunteers. More are needed at the older divisions. 6U and 8U: One Head Coach plus 1-2 assistant coaches (or two co-coaches plus 0-1 assistant coaches).
10U-14U: One Head Coach
plus 2-3 assistant coaches.
Coach
This position is responsible
for softball instruction and coaching during practices and games. Knowledge
of the game and skill in teaching softball skills is a requirement for
this position (but can be learned on the job for the younger (6U and
8U) divisions, and support is available from experienced coaches for
all levels). The coach may select a Manager/Team Parent to assist them
with communication and/or team activities.
Assistant Coach
This person helps the coach
at practices and games. There can be more than one assistant coach.
One assistant coach functions as the head coach when the head coach
is not available. Knowledge of the game and skill in teaching softball
skills is a requirement for this position, but can be learned on the
job.
NOTE: All dugout personnel
are required to be ACE Certified each year ... this certification can
be completed on line. To ensure the safety of all the players, all coaches
must complete an ASA (American Softball Association) background check.
TEAM VOLUNTEERS: OTHER
(will be appointed after team formation)
Manager
(or Team Parent)
The Team Manager/Team
Parent works closely with the Head Coach, and supports the activities
of the entire team, working closely with coaches and parents. The Manager
organizes team activities, and typically is involved in team communication
and organizing other parent volunteers. Knowledge of softball
skills or rules is not required.
Score Keepers (for 12U and
14U)
The scorekeeper keeps
the scorebook at the games.
Base Coaches (for 6U and 8U)
Serve as base coach at 1st
or 3rd base, as directed by the team coaches. Help
these younger girls focus on what is happening in the game, and remind
them when and where to run.
LEAGUE VOLUNTEERS
Equipment Maintenance and
Repair Helpers
Assist the Equipment Commissioner
to count, sort, and distribute team equipment (bats, ball, helmets,
catchers' gear placed in the team's equipment bag). Repair equipment,
such as the pitching machines, as necessary.
Uniforms Assistants
Help with uniform ordering,
sorting and distribution at the beginning of the season.
Picture Day Helpers
Help during PAGS Picture Day.
School Captains
The School Captains will distribute
registration information to each grade level at their school in the
form of flyers for Friday Folders, posting of posters or banners and
word of mouth. We think this is an important way for younger students
to learn about the opportunities and benefits of participating in PAGS.
Our intent is to identify School Captains prior to opening of Registration
each year; please contact Registrar at Registrar@
Field Prep
Help groom and maintain
our softball diamonds before games. This may include replacing bases
and pitching rubbers, maintaining the pitcher's circle and area around
home plate, raking the infield, chalking the lines, or other activities
as necessary.
